This town needs an enemy!
Ah yes, your enemies...all the little people that hate you. Below are some details about the military forces, vehicles and weapons in TCFH's Modern Era. New! 5/25: I've added more paramilitary units like Hazmat teams, military vehicles from earlier time periods, the press, and BAMRO's Psychotroopers.
PARAMILITARY
Police carry pistols and shotguns - they are the first wave of defense when a monster enters the city. Police helicopters are armed only with a single rifle, and sometimes tear gas grenades. Firefighters appear on the scene in response to fires, but may also attack the monster using fire extinguishers and their truck's water cannons. Hazmat teams have special suits and gear to deal with toxic spills, radiation exposure, and advanced fire containment. They also carry spray systems used for cleaning up biological or nuclear wastes. SWAT team members carry M16s and tear gas grenades. The SWAT Van deploys an 8-member SWAT team. The SWAT Armored Car has tear gas grenade launchers and a high-pressure water spray in its turret, used for crowd control. Scientists collect information about the monster by approaching the monster to observe it. As a scientist gets closer to the creature, a yellow question mark floats over his head -- when he comes close enough to the monster to "learn", the ? turns into an exclamation point ! and the wily scientist runs away to safety. Or is eaten, depending on how fast he can run.

PRESS
The press will show up right away -- like the Scientists, Press will try to get close to the monster and "report" about it. Press come in four delicious flavors: reporters, photographers, camera operators and radio broadcasters. When in range, the press will make "observations" about the monster (although these observations are not as valuable as the ones scientists make). These show up as question marks and exclamation points over their heads, just like the scientists. Scientists around the world will read the stories and study the monster footage, and will then contribute their own scientific observations (although since they aren't first hand, they aren't as valuable as observations made by scientists on the scene). Reporters and photographers must escape the scene for their observations to be processed by the AI. Radio and camera operators broadcast their stories live, so the AI processes their "observe points" immediately. You'll see a broadcast symbol ((())) appear over their heads as they broadcast. Newscopters hover near the monster, and can make observations by broadcasting, although their broadcasts are generally not worth as much as reporters on the ground.

MILITARY UNITS
Soldiers dispatch in squads consisting of a squad leader, several heavy weapons soldiers, and the remainder as riflemen (for a total of nine). The balance of heavy weapon-vs.-riflemen as well as the type of heavy weapon soldiers depends on the game difficulty setting. It can also vary based on what scientists in the game have discovered about the monster's vulnerabilities.
Military commanders carry only pistols, but will increase soldier morale in a general area around them. They also carry bullhorns and bark orders that all soldiers can hear, even if they don't have a squad leader. Commanders can also use the bullhorn to attempt to negotiate with the monster. Squad leaders are riflemen, but also carry radios to act as the communication and organizational center of each squad. If a squad loses its leader, the remaining soldiers will act independently, unable to receive new orders such as "hold fire" or "move to a new location". They will also lose morale and act in a disorganized fashion, and may panic under stress. The basic soldiers are riflemen, who carry a single shot bolt action rifle. They also carry three grenades, which they will use at close range. They are more aggressive than police, and use somewhat better body armor.
Heavy machine gunners carry automatic guns, but must set them up before firing and take down when they need to move. They also move slower than riflemen due to the added weight of the gun and ammo. They do not carry any other weaponry -- if they abandon their gun in a panic, they are weaponless. Bazooka guys carry a single shot anti-tank bazooka or TOW(Tube-Launched Optically-Tracked Wire-Guided) missile. After firing the single shot, they drop the disposable weapon and act as standard riflemen (but without the grenades). The grenadier has a grenade launcher capable of shooting a grenade much farther than one thrown by hand, but it has limited ammo. They also carry single fire rifles which they will use when their grenade launcher runs out.
Flamethrower troopers carry tanks of highly flammable liquid on their backs. While the flamethrower is a fierce weapon, it is short-ranged, limited in ammo, and dangerous to use. Flamethrowers have a good chance of exploding when injured, often killing their fellow troopers. They are braver than the average soldier due to the requirements of their weapon and their training. |

B.A.M.R.O. UNITS
B.A.M.R.O. (the Brigade of Advanced Monster Response Operations) is an elite Army division which will be called in against giant monsters when all else fails. They have access to all sorts of advanced weapons and technology.
Remote-controlled mechs (BUDIs, or Bipedal Urban Defense Interceptors) feature Gatling guns, missiles, laser cannons, or other special weapons. They are controlled from the Mech Command truck. "Spit" tanks can spray chemical weapons, toxic gas, or flame. The Special Weapon Truck or FATPLAT (Four Axle Transport Platform) can carry a variety of cannons and other stuff, depending on the monster. Flying Commandos have jet packs and laser guns -- and are very annoying to giant monsters. Psychotroopers are soldiers with the ability to blast a monster with psychic power.

The Navy's SH-2 Seasprite helicopter provides surveillance and targeting. F15E Strike Eagle (Air Force & Navy) Carrier or land-based strike aircraft carrying bombs, missiles and nose-mounted 20mm Gatling machine gun. Can also drop some specialty bombs, such as napalm or cluster bombs. Crew of 2. The Harrier (Navy) can take off, hover and land like a helicopter. The AC130 Spooky (Air Force) is a close air support aircraft, with a 25mm GAU Gatling gun, 40mm Bofors cannon, and 105mm cannon. The Jet Age brings in the F4, the P-80, and F-86 (not pictured). WEIRD WEAPONS
These will appear rarely (and you have to have Weird Weapons enabled in the Scenario Options screen), but when they do, watch out.
Robot frogs attack with plasma cannons mounted on their backs. Superheroes can attack the monster with mental powers, fire/cold/electrical beams, etc. The RD-113 Armored Duck carries a crew of 2 and can fire a variety of special beam weapons or regular guns.Fire-breathing llamas just, you know, breathe fire.
